The 60th anniversary trike transfer was a fun and unique experience in Sydney.Troll Tours Pty Ltd

The 60th anniversary trike transfer was organised by their daughter. It was a complete surprise and it took George a little time to warm up. In the end they both loved it. Our trike rider picked them up from home in Hunters Hill and did a the route which he was asked to do. Just as well he did, family was positioned at various places to take videos.

Hunters Hill

Some interesting information about this suburb. The origin of the name has been the subject of debate. There is a romantic theory that the name is derived from Huntershill House, the family home near Edinburgh of Thomas Muir, one of the Scottish martyrs transported here in 1794 for sedition. A more likely source is Captain John Hunter, Commander of Sirius in the First Fleet and second Governor of the Colony.

With more than 70% of the Municipality declared a conservation area, it’s easy to see why the area is recognised as Australia’s oldest garden suburb.

During the 1840s, bushrangers and convicts who had escaped from the penal settlement on Cockatoo Island would take refuge in Hunters Hill.

Woolwich

Firstly, they rode to Woolwich. The suburb’s name is derived from its namesake Woolwich, by the banks of the Thames in London. Parramatta River had been known as the ‘Thames of the Antipodes’.

The area’s Aboriginal name is ‘Mookaboola’ or ‘Moocooboola’, which means meeting of waters. Already, the 60th anniversary trike transfer has been fun and memorable.

Woolwich Pier Hotel

Our rider was asked to ride past Woolwich Pier Hotel. Established in 1885 The Woolwich Pier Hotel has been a longstanding cornerstone in the local community. We have eaten there and it was excellent food.

Woolwich ferry wharf

Further on, they rode to the wharf to turn around. The ferries here operate between Circular Quay and Cockatoo Island (another fascinating place to visit while in Sydney). Then, it was along Victoria Road and over a main bridge of Sydney.

Gladesville Bridge

Next, over this bridge, in either direction, are wonderful views of Parramatta River. It is a heritage-listed concrete arch road bridge that carries Victoria Road over the Parramatta River, from the western suburbs to the city (or vice versa). It was the first 305-metre (1,000 ft) span concrete bridge in the world and had a substantial number of engineering and technical elements that made it a world-leading bridge design and construction achievement. It was also the first bridge, if not one of the first bridges, to utilise computer programming in its construction.

This bridge is on the main arterial thoroughfare of Victoria Road – from the western suburbs to the city (or vice versa).

Gladesville

Then, it was into the suburb of Gladesville. In this suburb is the historical landmark, the cottage Rockend. Poet Banjo Paterson lived in the 1870s and 1880s. It was built circa 1850 and is still preserved and open to the public in Banjo Paterson Park, Punt Road.

Sydney may be a comparatively young city by world standards, but we sure have plenty of history already.

However, they had reached their destination. A cafe in Gladesville where all their family and friends were meeting to celebrate such a milestone. In conclusion, the 60th anniversary trike transfer was fun, an unusual but memorable way to get to a party!
