surprise 85th birthday gift – Meryl + Robin 11.06.22

The surprise 85th birthday gift of a trike tour, was organised by Meryl for her husband Robin. They both used to rider bikes back in the day, but haven’t been on one for a long time. She decided on a trike as opposed to 2 Harleys because she wasn’t sure they’d be able to lift their legs over the Harleys. Meryl thought she’d surprise Robin and she sure did. Today they felt young again.

Spit Bridge

Our trike rider Syl, met them in the car park near the Spit Bridge. Firstly, they crossed the Spit Bridge which is always fun. With great views of Middle Harbour and expensive boats. The Spit Bridge is a steel and concrete girder bridge with a bascule lift span across the Middle Harbour.

Manly, Freshwater, Curl Curl, Dee Why etc

They rode up past Queenscliff, which is really northern Manly. Then they rode past Freshwater,  Curl Curl, Dee Why and Long Reef. All such beautiful beaches.

Narrabeen Lagoon

They rode via Narrabeen Lagoon (also referred to as Narrabeen Lake) is Sydney’s Northern Beaches largest estuary system located just behind the world famous surfing beach at Narrabeen. It is a haven for wildlife. So far, the surprise 85th birthday gift was a lot of fun. Already they had seen so many of the beautiful places many visitors or locals to Sydney don’t get to see.

“Home and Away”

Then the tour went via Bilgola Plateau, Clareville, Careel Bay and Avalon before reaching Whale Beach. Between Whale Beach and Palm Beach is the Palm Beach Bible Garden. It has spectacular views over Palm Beach. After a stop for coffee, a stretch and a look at the view, they headed to Palm Beach. It is the home of the long running TV series “Home and Away”. However, the 3 hour tour was just over halfway done, so Syl turned around and they headed back to the Spit Bridge and their car.

Pittwater

Next, they turned right and headed along Mona Vale Road, Terry Hills. This meant they would have new scenery and new roads to ride on. They did a big loop.

Wakehurst Parkway

This joins the Wakehurst Parkway. We love the Wakehurst Parkway because the legal speed is faster than most Sydney limits.  

Oxford Falls

After riding along a part of it, they rode up the Parkway to Oxford Falls. The Oxford Falls are two waterfalls on Middle Creek, which flows north to meet Oxford Creek. Meandering Creek flows into Middle Creek. Garigal National Park borders the suburb, to the north. Then it was through the norther suburbs of Frenchs Forest and Seaforth to their car on the south side of the Spit Bridge.

In conclusion, the surprise 85th birthday gift was a huge surprise and a great one. It was also a lot of fun and very memorable.

Harley tour over 3 bridges – Stephanie 05.06.22

Stephanie is legally blind but can still experience and enjoy our tours. She decided to do a Harley tour over 3 bridges. While there are great views on this tour, Stephanie could still feel the breeze, hear the noises and feel the vibrations of the Harley. Our Harley rider Phil, met her at Central Station and off they went.

Sydney Harbour Bridge

Firstly, they rode over the Sydney Harbour Bridge. We always tell our passenger to look up and enjoy the unique view. The more than 6,000,000 rivets are so interesting and the arch is so iconic.

Kirribilli

Next, they rode past Kirribilli House. Kirribilli House is the secondary official residence of the Prime Minister of Australia. After that, they rode around the corner to Jeffrey Street Wharf. From here, the views across Sydney Harbour towards the Sydney Opera House and the CBD are magnificent. In addition, it also has an up-close view of the side and underneath of the bridge. A perfect place to stop for photos.

The Kirribilli Loop

They rode under the north side of the bridge and continued on their tour. The underside of the northern end of the SHB – Sydney Harbour Bridge – is very interesting. The Kirribilli Loop was finished by riding past Luna Park and the North Sydney Olympic Pool.

They continued riding on through North Sydney and Crows Nest before joining River Road. It is a fun road to ride on. River Road leads to Burns Bay Road which, in turn, leads to another bridge but not one of the main three.

Fig Tree Bridge, Tarban Creek Bridge, Gladesville Bridge

The Fig Tree Bridge opened in 1963 and spans the Lane Cove River. After that bridge, they continued on and crossed the second of the bridges Tarban Creek Bridge. This spans Tarban Creek, likewise, it has nice views east to the Harbour Bridge. Then they got to bridge #2 of the main 3 Bridges, the Gladesville Bridge. It has wonderful views along Parramatta River towards the Harbour Bridge and the city.

This bridge is on the main arterial thoroughfare of Victoria Road. They travelled along for a short while before turning off into the inner west suburb of Drummoyne. Following the shoreline of Iron Cove, which is part of the Parramatta River, they saw some lovely water views. It is part of the 7 km long Bay Run. So far, the Harley tour over 3 bridges was a great experience.

ANZAC Bridge

Our favourite bridge is the ANZAC Bridge. We think it is incredible, a work of art and design. It is main bridge #3. Similarly, it is also great to see without a roof over your head inhibiting the view.

Most noteworthy, the stay cable design concept development and final design for the new bridge were carried out by the Roads & Traffic Authority of NSW. Finally, the bridge was opened to traffic on 03 December 1995 as the Glebe Island Bridge.

The bridge was given its current name on Remembrance Day in 1998 to honour the memory of the soldiers of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (known as Anzacs) who served in World War I.

However, the hour was up so Phil dropped Stephanie back at Central Station. In conclusion, the Harley tour over 3 bridges was a great experience, even if Stephanie couldn’t see very much. The photo is of Phil the Harley rider because Stephanie didn’t want any photos of her put on the website or social media. We respect everyone’s wishes.

Australian holiday trike tour – Elias + Thomas 05.06.22

Our passengers from Germany, decided to do an Australian holiday trike tour. While in Sydney they thought it the best place to experience the freedom on a trike and see the sights. We agree, it is the best place! So many beautiful areas to explore.

Our trike rider Brian, picked them up from their accommodation in the Sydney CBD.

Mrs Macquarie’s Point

Firstly, they rode past the Royal Botanical Gardens to Mrs Macquarie’s Point was next. It has beautiful views looking west towards the Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge. They ride past Mrs Macquarie’s Chair. Mrs Macquarie’s Chair is an exposed sandstone rock cut into the shape of a bench, on a peninsula in Sydney Harbour. It was hand carved by convicts in 1810, for Elizabeth Macquarie, the wife of Major-General Lachlan Macquarie, Governor of NSW.

Woolloomooloo

Next, they rode through the inner eastern suburb of Woolloomoolloo and past the famous Harry Cafe De Wheels. Harry’s Café de Wheels has been serving customers for over 80 years. They make delicious pies, hotdogs and more.

Eastern suburbs

Continuing on, they rode through the infamous Kings Cross, though it has calmed down a lot since it’s heyday – home of the famous and huge Coca Cola sign. Kings Cross is also home to nightclubs and ladies of the night though it is not nearly as raunchy as it was in the 1970s (apparently). After there, they headed east through the posh suburbs of the eastern suburbs of Sydney, including the Bays: Rose Bay, Double Bay and Rushcutters Bay.

North Bondi and Brighton Lookout.

There are a couple of lookouts at the North Bondi headland. They all offer beautiful views of Bondi Beach and out to the Tasman Sea, part of the South Pacific Ocean. Brian stopped there for a few photos and so they could admire the view. So far, on the Australian holiday trike tour they have seen some great views and scenic sights.

Bondi Beach

Next, they drove past the world famous Bondi Beach to the south side. Looking from the two ends of the beach give a different perspective. This is the beach where Bondi Lifeguards of the Bondi Rescue TV series is filmed. When in Sydney it is one of the places you should visit. The beach is seriously nice (but not our favourite) and we usually stop near the lifeguard station, made famous by the TV series “Bondi Rescue”. Bondi Beach is one of the most visited tourist sites in Australia. Bondi Beach is recorded by the Australian Museum that Bondi means place where a fight using boondi sticks (nullas nullas or fighting sticks) took place.

Tamarama, Bronte and Clovelly

Riding further south, along more beautiful, though possibly less well known, beaches. The suburb of Tamarama has a small ocean beach about 1 kilometre south of Bondi Beach and a couple of hundred metres north of Bronte Beach. It is an extremely narrow beach and deceptive for its size. Tamarama Beach is often referred to as Glamarama (or Glamourama), owing to the alleged abundance of glamorous people who sunbathe (often topless), on what must be one of the smallest strips of sand in the state (Wikipedia). So far, the trike tour for surprise birthday is a huge success.

Bronte Beach sits on Nelson Bay, surrounded by Bronte Park. Bronte offers scenic cliff-top walking paths south to Coogee via the Waverley Cemetery and north to Tamarama and Bondi Beach. Clovelly Beach is a small and tranquil beach located at the end of a narrow bay. All these beaches are beautiful and great places to swim.

Coogee

Next is Coogee Beach where they stopped for a coffee and a stretch. Another beautiful beach and slightly more famous than the previous beaches, due to a well know hotel in Coogee. The name Coogee is said to be taken from a local Aboriginal word koojah which means “smelly place”. Another version is koo-chai or koo-jah, both of which mean “the smell of the seaweed drying” in the Bidigal language, or “stinking seaweed”, a reference to the smell of decaying kelp washed up on the beach. Coogee was gazetted as a village in 1838. The first school was built in 1863, and the building was converted into the Coogee Bay Hotel in 1873 (Wikipedia).

Riding past Coogee Beach to Rosslyn Flats is interesting. However, the 1.5 hours was almost up, so Brian headed north west, through Randwick and Moore Park before dropping them off in the city. Here they could continue exploring our beautiful city.

In conclusion, the Australian holiday trike tour was one of the best things they have done on their holiday. We love making people happy!

birthday Blue Mountains Harley – Tansy + Friends 04.05.22

Tansy was given the birthday Blue Mountains Harley tour as a gift. A friend decided to come with her on the Harley tour. Afterwards they were going to meet up with more friends for lunch. When the other friends heard about it, they wanted to come along as well. So, we organised 4 Harleys for Tansy, Cherie, Elaine + Leslie to meet them in Katoomba and take them on a 2 hour tour of the Blue Mountains. There is so much to see up here. Before we had the chance to send a follow up email, Tansy wrote:

Lincoln Rock

Firstly, they rode to Lincoln Rock, it is an incredible lookout. As well as the all-encompassing views of Jamison Valley, which change colour throughout the day as the sun and clouds move overhead, the drawcard of Lincoln’s Rock is the impressive optical-illusion photo you can get as a memento, which makes it appear as though you’re sitting literally on the edge of a cliff. In truth you are, except that there’s a fairly safe ledge just below that would stop you from falling very far.

Leura

Next it was through Leura. Leura is arguably the prettiest village in the Blue Mountains. The gardens of Leura are famous for their magnificent displays of flowers.

The Three Sisters

Following the road from Leura, you end up at the Three Sisters, Katoomba. The Three Sisters is essentially an unusual rock formation representing three sisters who according to Aboriginal legend, were turned to stone. Each of the Three Sisters stand at 922, 918 & 906 metres tall, respectively. That’s over 3000 feet above sea level! So far, the birthday Blue Mountains Harley tour is very interesting and a lot of fun.

Govetts Leap

Visit Govetts Leap you’ll know why it’s one of the most famous lookouts in Australia. The magnificent waterfall drops a whopping 180m to the base of the cliff, and if you’re not mesmerised by the dancing waves of water spray you’ll be transfixed by the sweeping views down the valley to the Grose Wilderness.

Mount Victoria

The westernmost village in the Blue Mountains, Mount Victoria is brimming with historic charm and natural attractions. Originally a stockade for convict chain-gangs, and later an important staging post for Cobb & Co coaches, the town became known as Mount Victoria in the 1860s when the railway came to town.

However, the 2 hour tour was almost over. So, our riders dropped our passengers at the prearranged drop off point. In conclusion, the birthday Blue Mountains Harley tour was a lot of fun, a success, something they are all so happy they experienced.

Harley tour without kids – Anthony + Keira 04.06.22

From Melbourne Victoria, our passengers are in Sydney for a short holiday. A great way to celebrate is a Harley tour without kids!

Our Harley riders Phil and Pat, picked them up from their hotel in the Sydney CBD. They kitted the passengers with helmets and jackets.

Sydney holiday trike tour – Audrey + Christian 02.06.22

Audrey and her teenage son are from the USA. They thought a Sydney holiday trike tour would be a great way to see the major sights. It sure is, it’s amazing how much you can see in 1.5 hours on a trike (or Harleys). Our Chopper 4 trike rider Fred, picked them up from their hotel in the city.

Centennial Park

Riding through the huge Centennial Park is a lovely experience. 120 fields and venues, and 35+ different sports played in the Centennial Parklands. It is the largest community sports precinct in Australia! The history is also interesting: “Originally a swamp and then set aside as land for the water source for Sydney. Centennial Park was reconstructed as a public park and opened in 1888. Sir Henry Parkes’ vision was to create a ‘People’s Park’ in which the citizens of Sydney could ‘take in the air’ away from the Sydney town centre.”

Bronte Beach and Tamarama Beach

Next, they rode east to Bronte Beach and then north to the tiny but picturesque Tamarama Beach. It’s lovely to look out to the South Pacific Ocean from any of the beaches. So far, the Sydney holiday trike tour was a lot of fun. It’s hard to keep a teen entertained but the trike tour had his attention the whole time.

Further north they came to the famous Bondi Beach. Here they stopped for photos and why not with this view! Just to the left of this photo is the the world famous tower of the Bondi Lifeguards of the Bondi Rescue TV series. They stopped at the famous Bondi Beach for photos, when in Sydney it is one of the places you should visit. Vehicle transportation is a staple component of our society. When commuting, we see hundreds of cars and trucks on the road, including advertisements and outdoor digital signage. Sometimes it truly is a wonder how all the vehicles on the road can live in harmony. The credit for road safety goes for a range of components on the road like roading markings, signs, and signals. Additionally, the work done by governments deserves a shout out too. But safety tends to get overlooked for motorbike riders since they are relatively fewer in number. Motorbikes offer a lot less protection than their vehicular counterparts, which means they are more at risk of fatal accidents. It has been suggested that better road signs can save the lives of motorbike riders. But how can this be done?

Visible road signs


Driving is an activity that requires a driver’s full attention and is dependent heavily on vision. Therefore, the only way to communicate information to drivers about road safety is through visual stimulation. Traditional road signs tend to be harder to see, especially since they get worn out with time. Studies have noted that improved road markings and signage have helped increase safety on the road for all road users. When brighter signs have been installed, it has been seen that crash numbers have fallen by almost half. Therefore, installing more modern road signs and even replacing older ones can have a huge impact and save the lives of motorbike riders.


Retroreflective signs


You could simply make older road signs from metal in the past, which did its job but was not super effective. Traffic signs have been revolutionized through technology like retroreflective signs in modern times. These signs work on the principle of reflectivity. What essentially happens is that the light from the headlights of a car or motorbike hits the sign and is reflected to the driver. This returned light makes the road sign appear brighter to the driver, ensuring that they will give them more attention. Therefore, motorbike drivers will be alerted to any road safety alerts, and cars will also be careful. Overall, this results in more safety for motorbike riders.

Active Symbols


A study conducted by researchers found that the symbols on traditional road signs are too passive. They found that drivers were more likely to take action accordingly if the symbols depicted more motion and dynamism. This is because drivers do not have much time to read something, so it will catch their attention if they see a depiction of movement. These symbols can even show a greater risk depiction if designed correctly, resulting in drivers driving more safely. For example, a sign showing falling rocks can show rocks falling closer to the car, showing a genuine danger to their safety. This may prompt drivers to be more alert for any collapses, increasing road safety for them and motorbike riders.

Better Sign Warnings


Just as symbols on signs can influence drivers, so can the warnings written on them. Typically when roads allow cars, motorbikes, and bicycles to share a lane, the signs will read ‘Share the road.’ But this warning is very ambitious, as most drivers may not realize that they are talking about bikes and may think they are trucks. In a quick survey conducted by researchers, they found that more people understood the sign that was about cyclists when it said, ‘Bicycles may use the full lane.’ We can apply this same principle for motorbikes too. Such an implementation can alert drivers to the presence of motorbikes that they can sometimes forget since cars are usually a majority of the road. This can help increase safety for motorbike riders.

Cindy was celebrating a special birthday so wanted to do something special and memorable. She organised the birthday celebration Harley ride for on her actual birthday. But, it was rainging so it was postponed until today. Our six Harley riders did the 1.5 hour ride, dropped them off at Bondi Icebergs. As the passengers walked in the door of Icebergs, it oured down so the riders got soaked. At least the girls stayed dry.

The passengers live in the western suburbs so caught a train into Milsons Point. Our Harley riders met the passengers there and took thme on a fun tour of this area and the eastern suburbs.

Blues Point Reserve

Firstly, they rode to Blues Point Reserve. The views over Blues Bay towards the Sydney Opera House, the Harbour Bridge and the CBD are just stunning. Even on an overcast day it is a beautiful city and harbour.

Then it was over the Harbour Bridge and into the city. We always tell our passengers to look up and enjoy the unique view. The more than 6,000,000 rivets are so interesting and the arch is so iconic.

Mrs Macquarie’s Point

To get here, you drive past the Royal Botanical Gardens and the Art Gallery of NSW. Mrs Macquarie’s Point has beautiful views looking west towards the Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge. They ride past Mrs Macquarie’s Chair. Mrs Macquarie’s Chair is an exposed sandstone rock cut into the shape of a bench, on a peninsula in Sydney Harbour. It was hand carved by convicts in 1810, for Elizabeth Macquarie, the wife of Major-General Lachlan Macquarie, Governor of NSW.

Next, they rode past Harry’s Cafe De Wheels in Wooloomooloo. Lots of celebrities have been there and had their photos taken, it is always interesting. Harry’s has been serving customers for over 80 years. They make delicious pies, hotdogs and more.

Then it was up the hill and they rode through the infamous Kings Cross, though it has calmed down a lot since it’s heyday – home of the famous and huge Coca Cola sign. Kings Cross is also home to nightclubs and ladies of the night though it is not nearly as raunchy as it was in the 1970s (apparently). So far, the birthday celebration Harley ride has taken them to a lot of different places in Sydney.

Then it was through the eastern suburbs of Sydney, including the Bays: Rose Bay, Double Bay and Rushcutters Bay. Continuing on, they rode north on the South Peninsula to the Gap.

“The Gap”

They stopped at “The Gap” for photos. The view is towards North Head and out to the Tasman Sea, part of the South Pacific Ocean. Watsons Bay sits on the end of the South Head peninsula. Although the cliff is a popular visitor destination, it has an infamy for suicides.

We then rode via Dover Heights to North Bondi Headland. They stopped for a stretch, some photos and to see the view. It has a stunning view which looks south, down the coastline and to the famous Bondi Beach. It’s probably the most famous beach in the world. The beach is seriously nice (but not our favourite) and we usually stop near the lifeguard station, made famous by the TV series “Bondi Rescue”. Bondi Beach is one of the most visited tourist sites in Australia.

Next, it was fun riding past the famous Bondi Beach. In this area, onlookers always seem to wave. They stopped at the famous Bondi Beach for photos, when in Sydney it is one of the places you should visit. The beach is seriously nice (but not our favourite) and we usually stop near the lifeguard station, made famous by the TV series “Bondi Rescue”. Bondi Beach is one of the most visited tourist sites in Australia. Bondi Beach is recorded by the Australian Museum that Bondi means place where a fight using boondi sticks (nullas nullas or fighting sticks) took place.

However, the 1.5 hours was up so the Harley riders dropped them at Bondi Icebergs to continue the birthday celebration. In conclusion, the birthday celebration Harley ride was a lot of fun and a huge success. Definitely worth it we were told.

Gabriella

Gabriella organised the Southern Harley tour escapade for herself. Since Covid hit she has been run off her feet, work wise. She needed a break, even a short one, to forget about the daily grind and relax.

Sure, we can help with that. Gabriella has been on a trike with us before, with her Mum. This time she went by herself on the Harley. Our Harley rider Phil picked her up from home near Sydney University.

Firstly, they decided to get rid of any cobwebs, so to speak. Phil rode down the Princes Highway to Kiama. Yes, on a Harley you can often get to places faster without speeding, than in a car.

Sea Cliff Bridge

After there, they turned and headed north. One of the main attractions of this tour and of the area, is the Sea Cliff Bridge. The road used to have some scary moments. The potential of falling debris or subsidence into the sea made it necessary to close the road, but all is well again. The impressive 665 metre Sea Cliff Bridge is now in operation, snaking its way around the cliffs and over the water, offering a far safer but spectacular route.

Bald Hill lookout – Stanwell Tops

Famously well known, Stanwell Tops is known for its beautiful coastal, escarpment and cliff views. The hills that rise sharply from the coast to the escarpment with strong air currents make Stanwell Tops a prime spot for hang gliding and paragliding. It is the perfect spot to take a photo and admire the views of the ocean, the escarpment and the Sea Cliff Bridge. So far, the Southern Harley tour escapade was a perfect escape and a real success.

Royal National Park

Next, they rode through some of the Royal National Park. The Royal National Park was established in 1879 and spans 160 square kilometres. As Australia’s first National Park and after Yellowstone in the U.S.A. it was the second National Park in the world to be established.

Finally, after riding through the Royal National Park, the 4 hours was almost up. Phil rode Gabriella back to her home. In conclusion, the Southern Harley tour escapade was the perfect way to escape life for a little while.

family trike tour Sydney – Day Family 28.05.22

Samone organised the family trike tour Sydney, when they were here for holidays. She wrote to us after the tour:

Sydney Harbour Bridge

Firstly, they rode over the famous Sydney Harbour Bridge. As they rode over it, we always tell our passengers to look up and enjoy the unique view. The more than 6,000,000 rivets are so interesting and the arch is so iconic. It’s nicknamed ‘The Coathanger’ because of its arch-based design. It is the largest steel arch bridge in the world.

Kirribilli

Next, they rode past Kirribilli House. Kirribilli House is the secondary official residence of the Prime Minister of Australia. After that, they rode around the corner to Jeffrey Street Wharf. From here, the views across Sydney Harbour towards the Sydney Opera House and the CBD are magnificent. In addition, it also has an up-close view of the side and underneath of the bridge. A perfect place to stop for photos.

The Kirribilli Loop

They rode under the north side of the bridge and continued on their tour. The underside of the northern end of the SHB – Sydney Harbour Bridge – is very interesting. The Kirribilli Loop was finished by riding past Luna Park and the North Sydney Olympic Pool.

Blues Point Reserve

Continuing on, they rode on through Milsons Point, did a left hand turn and rode up a few streets. This lead to Blues Point Reserve. The views over Blues Bay towards the Sydney Opera House, the Harbour Bridge and the CBD are just stunning. All the more stunning because of the lovely weather. Another perfect place for photos. So far, the family trike tour Sydney was a lot of fun. Our passengers are loving it.

The Rocks and Barangaroo

Then it was south, back over the Bridge to the Rocks. The Rocks is Sydney’s oldest area, it became established shortly after the colony’s formation in 1788. In the 1970’s it was nearly demolished but for local residents and and unions. Thank goodnes, it is a wonderful place to ride through and walk around.

Barangaroo includes six hectares of busy public waterfront walks and parks, including the beautiful Barangaroo Reserve, as well as commercial office towers and apartments, all serviced by new and extended transport systems. It’s only been open a few years and worth a ride by and a walk around later.

However, the hour tour was up so our riders dropped the passengers back at their hotel. In conclusion, the family trike tour Sydney was a huge success. As Samone said, “I was so scared for a few minutes but soon calmed down and I thoroughly enjoyed myself.”
