Unfortunately, the husband of one of the passengers couldn’t come because his visa didn’t come through in time. However, this didn’t stop them from having fun.

Tripadvisor review: Eastern Sydney Panorama trike tour

Great wind therapy, views, and commentary from the driver. He took us to some beautiful
scenic areas as well as infamous locations we would have missed otherwise.

St Mary’s Cathedral, Woolloomooloo and Kings Cross

Firstly, they rode past St Mary’s Cathedral which is very impressive, even when riding past. It’s a Gothic Revival architectural building which opened in 1928. It took from 1866 to 1928 to build and has a height of 75m. Next, they rode through the inner eastern suburb of Woolloomoolloo and past the famous Harry Cafe De Wheels. Harry’s Café de Wheels has been serving customers for over 80 years. They make delicious pies, hotdogs and more. Then it was up the hill and through Kings Cross.

Eastern suburbs

Continuing on, they rode through the infamous Kings Cross, though it has calmed down a lot since it’s heyday – home of the famous and huge Coca Cola sign. Kings Cross is also home to nightclubs and ladies of the night though it is not nearly as raunchy as it was in the 1970s (apparently). After there, they headed east through the posh suburbs of the eastern suburbs of Sydney, including the Bays: Rose Bay, Double Bay and Rushcutters Bay.

North Bondi and Brighton Lookout

There are a couple of lookouts at the North Bondi headland. They all offer beautiful views of Bondi Beach and out to the Tasman Sea, part of the South Pacific Ocean. Brian stopped there for a few photos and so they could admire the view. So far, on the trike tour on Australian holiday they have seen some great views and scenic sights.

Bondi Beach

Next, they drove past the world famous Bondi Beach to the south side. Looking from the two ends of the beach give a different perspective. This is the beach where Bondi Lifeguards of the Bondi Rescue TV series is filmed. When in Sydney it is one of the places you should visit. The beach is seriously nice (but not our favourite) and we usually stop near the lifeguard station, made famous by the TV series “Bondi Rescue”. Bondi Beach is one of the most visited tourist sites in Australia. Bondi Beach is recorded by the Australian Museum that Bondi means place where a fight using boondi sticks (nullas nullas or fighting sticks) took place.

Watsons Bay and The Gap

Heading north through some upper class suburbs, they rode to “The Gap” and stopped for photos. The view towards North Head and out to the South Pacific Ocean. Watsons Bay sits on the end of the South Head peninsula. The Gap is an ocean cliff which faces the Tasman Sea, is located in the suburb of Watsons Bay. Although the cliff is a popular tourist destination, it is infamous for suicides.

However, the 1.5 hours was almost up, so Brian turned around, rode back through the city and dropped them back at their hotel. In conclusion, the trike tour on Australian holiday was a lot of fun, very scenic and a memorable experience. Feel the Freedom!

Sydney’s northern beaches Harley tour was actually a Christmas present for Graham. From Scotland, Lyndsay thought it would be a great gift to do when they were in Sydney. It sure was!

Manly

Our Harley rider Pat, picked Graham up from Manly. We emailed a description and map of where to meet. Accordingly, they knew exactly where to meet our Harley rider. Manly has several claims to fame; it was the birthplace of surfing in Australia, the first place to legalise all-day bathing in 1903 and one of the world’s first Surf Life Saving clubs. Manly Beach was the location for the first World Surfing Championships held in 1964.

Freshwater, Curl Curl, Dee Why etc

Firstly, they rode past the famous and iconic Manly Beach. This leads past Queenscliff, which is really northern Manly. Then they rode past Freshwater, Curl Curl, Dee Why and Long Reef. All such beautiful beaches.

Narrabeen Lagoon

They rode via Narrabeen Lagoon (also referred to as Narrabeen Lake) is Sydney’s Northern Beaches largest estuary system located just behind the world famous surfing beach at Narrabeen. It is a haven for wildlife. So far, the Sydney’s northern beaches Harley tour was a lot of fun. Already Graham has seen so many of the beautiful places many visitors or locals to Sydney don’t get to see.

“Home and Away”

Then the tour went via Bilgola Plateau, Clareville, Careel Bay and Avalon before reaching Whale Beach. Between Whale Beach and Palm Beach is the Palm Beach Bible Garden. It has spectacular views over Palm Beach. After a stop for coffee, a stretch and a look at the view, they headed to Palm Beach. It is the home of the long running TV series “Home and Away”. However, the 3 hour tour was just over halfway done, so Syl turned around and they headed back to the Spit Bridge and their car.

Pittwater

Next, they turned right and headed along Mona Vale Road, Terry Hills. Certainly, this meant they would have new scenery and new roads to ride on.

Wakehurst Parkway

They did a big loop as this joins the Wakehurst Parkway. We love the Wakehurst Parkway because the legal speed is faster than most Sydney limits.  

Oxford Falls

After riding along a part of it, they rode up the Parkway to Oxford Falls. The Oxford Falls are two waterfalls on Middle Creek, which flows north to meet Oxford Creek. Meandering Creek flows into Middle Creek. Garigal National Park borders the suburb, to the north. However, time was almost up so it was through the northern suburbs and back to Manly. In conclusion, the Sydney’s northern beaches Harley tour was a lot of fun and a memorable experience, a great Christmas present!

The cousin’s Sydney trike tour was organised by Sydney cousin Denise, for herself and New Zealand cousin Nicola to experience. They thought it would be a fun way for Nicola to explore Sydney. For Denise, who is local, it was fun to feel like a tourist!

Sydney Harbour Bridge

Firstly, they rode over the Sydney Harbour Bridge. We always tell our passenger to look up and enjoy the unique view. The more than 6,000,000 rivets are so interesting and the arch is so iconic. This bridge is the eighth longest spanning-arch bridge in the world and the tallest steel arch bridge, measuring 134 m (440 ft) from top to water level. It was also the world’s widest long-span bridge, at 48.8 m (160 ft) wide, until construction of the new Port Mann Bridge in Vancouver was completed in 2012.

Kirribilli

Next, they rode past Kirribilli House. Kirribilli House is the secondary official residence of the Prime Minister of Australia. After that, they rode around the corner to Jeffrey Street Wharf. From here, the views across Sydney Harbour towards the Sydney Opera House and the CBD are magnificent. In addition, it also has an up-close view of the side and underneath of the bridge. A perfect place to stop for photos. So far, the cousin’s Sydney trike tour was a lot of fun and they have already seen so much.

The Kirribilli Loop

They rode under the north side of the bridge and continued on their tour. The underside of the northern end of the SHB – Sydney Harbour Bridge – is very interesting. The Kirribilli Loop was finished by riding past Luna Park and the North Sydney Olympic Pool.

Blues Point Reserve

Continuing on, they rode on through Milsons Point, did a left hand turn and rode up a few streets. This lead to Blues Point Reserve. The views over Blues Bay towards the Sydney Opera House, the Harbour Bridge and the CBD are just stunning. All the more stunning because of the lovely weather. Another perfect place for photos.

However, the hour was almost up, so Brian rode back over the Sydney Harbour Bridge and dropped them off at Circular Quay. In conclusion, the cousin’s Sydney trike tour was a great way to celebrate their ‘reunion’! Overall, a huge success and so much fun. Feel the Freedom!

The Sydney Mardi Gras parade 2023 was fun. For those who don’t know, Mardi Gras is French for “Fat Tuesday“, reflecting the practice of the last night of eating rich, fatty foods before the ritual Lent season begins on Ash Wednesday.

The Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras festival culminates in the renowned Sydney Mardi Gras Parade, an LGBTQIA+ rights protest and celebration of sexuality. The parade features more than 20,000 entrants this year, in colourful costumes and elaborate floats, who represent a community group, topical theme or political message.

The last 2 years the parade has been held at the Sydney Cricket Ground which is not quite the same. 2023 brings it back to it’s usual home (since 1978) on Oxford St. Since 2014, we have joined with People with Disability Australia (pwda) in the parade, with the exception of the covid years.

A long but fun day

It’s a long but fun day. The Mardi Gras organisers are very strict, which is a very good thing. ID, paperwork, permits, entry passes all have to be organised. People with Disability Australia organise all that for us. We joined the float at 2pm so when we arrived at the marshalling area, we were all together. After checking everyone’s ID and paperwork we took our place among the parade participants. We were #10 in the parade which was good, it meant we finished early.

Mardi Gras

Earlier, in the planning days, we received an email from the organisers, “Mardi Gras is just one of the many activities being held across the two-week festival. The eyes of the world will be on us! And as result of it WorldPride there will be approximately an extra 500,000 people from all around the world joining Mardi Gras this year – an event that usually has 200,000 participants and spectators.”

That’s a lot of people!

After waiting for many hours, the time came and off we went. It was a time of celebration, fun and acceptance, no matter who you are.

History

On 24 June 1978 a small group of gay and lesbian people operating as the Gay Solidarity Group staged a day of events in Sydney. The intention was to promote gay and lesbian culture and to encourage political activism against the discrimination they routinely experienced.

I (Katrina) was actually in Chinatown with my family and some family friends. We had finished eating, came out to the footpath to go home. Suddenly, a large tray truck drove by. On the back were semi-naked men in bondage leather costumes. As a 13 year old, it was something I had never seen before – actually something no-one had seen before. So, I have never forgotten but it wasn’t until decades later I realised it was the first Mardi Gras parade in Sydney.
